What Is The Sweet And Sour Pork?

Sweet and Sour Pork is a famous Cantonese meal and an iconic Chinese food recipe. This meal, called “goo lou yok” in Cantonese dialect, is highly satisfying to the tongue because of the flavourful sweet and sour sauce—the sweetness from sugar combined with the tangy ketchup and sharp rice vinegar—together with the crunchy fried pork chunks.

What You’ll Need

1 pound sliced pork

1 red bell pepper, chopped

1 green bell pepper, chopped

1/3rd cup soy sauce

1 red onion, cut into wedges

1 piece sliced carrot

1/2 cup flour (all-purpose)

1/3rd cup cornstarch

For the Sauce

a quarter cup of water

3 1/2 teaspoons white wine vinegar

tomato ketchup, 5 tbsp.

a quarter cup of white sugar

Season with salt and pepper to taste

In a bowl, place the pork loin. Add Soy sauce (you may also add Salt if needed). Allow 10 minutes to marinate.

In a pan, pour the cooking oil and heat it.

In a mixing bowl, combine the flour and cornstarch and stir until evenly distributed.

Dip the marinated pork in a beaten egg before being dusting it with flour and cornstarch.

For 10 minutes or until the colour turns medium brown, deep fry the pork (coated with cornstarch and flour).

Remove from the heat.

In a separate pan, heat the sweet and sour sauce ingredients, then pour them in. Allow coming to a boil.

Toss in the carrots for 3 minutes in the oven.

Add the onions and bell peppers to the pan (green and red). 4 minutes in the oven (add extra water as needed).

Stir in the deep-fried pork loin for 2 minutes in the oven.

Add Salt & pepper to taste.

Serve hot! Share and Enjoy!
